In the meantime, if you're new to the subject of speakers and are feeling dazzled by all the terminology, here's a quick rundown of common speaker terms to help get you started.

1) Active Speaker: also known as a powered speaker, this is a speaker with a built in amplifier

2) Passive Speaker: speaker without a built-in amplifier, so needs to be connected to an external amp

3) Amplifier: turns low power audio signals into high power audio signals

4) Driver: takes high power signals from the amplifier and vibrates, physically moving the air to create sound

5) Monitor: speaker directed at those on stage rather than the audience, allowing performers to hear their own performance

6) Subwoofer: speaker used specifically for reproducing low level frequencies, i.e. bass.

7) Tweeter: speaker used specifically for producing high level frequencies

8) Crossover: separates full bandwidth audio signals into specific frequency bands, allowing them to be routed to a speaker type appropriate for reproducing the frequency
